Infinity Ward dev laughs at bizarre rumor of Modern Warfare artwork teasing MW2 Remastered

A new, bizarre theory that has started to float around the internet the last few days is about what the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare artwork could be teasing as fans have been waiting for a glimpse at any new info on what’s coming this year.

The new theory claims that the Modern Warfare artwork is teasing Modern Warfare 2 Remastered as apparently Captain Price in the MW artwork has a “2” ironed in his arm.

Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director has replied with “Ha, that’s funny!” basically shutting down this whole conspiracy theory that has been going around (and bizarrely gone viral for some folks).

Many fans have been holding out hope for a possible Modern Warfare 2 Remastered since the original rumor started back in March 2018 with a retailer listing.

The latest news on the Modern Warfare 2 Remastered front was in February of this year when Europe PEGI Board rated a “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.”

As always, we’ll update you with any new info.

A new digital pre-order bonus for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has reportedly been revealed prior to official announcement.

A user on Xbox One noticed in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Store under the ‘Modern Warfare’ tab that there was a new Pre-Order Bonus listed: Captain Price + Prestige Token to use in Black Ops 4. The image says ‘Playable Blackout Character Classic Captain Price.’

Here’s the image shared by @GHarbridge27:

Another user showcased a video:

Activision has not officially announced this new pre-order bonus for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and the Xbox Store does not have any listings for the bonus. It’s only links to the Prestige Token bonus in game for now.

Stay tuned for new info.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – Additional Details on Weapons – Active Idle, Reload, And More

In the latest ‘intel drop’ on the Activision Blog, the team at Infinity Ward has shared some additional details on the weapons and the new weapon system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to match the new engine upgrades for the game.

The game is all about ensuring the weapons feel authentic and ensure that they are working just as you’d expect them in many ways to look and feel in real life.

Here’s an overview from Mark Grigsby, Animation Director at Infinity Ward:

“The devil’s in the details. It may look simple. A lot of people play video games and there are tons of great first-person action games, with weapons that are ubiquitous. They have reload animations, they have different sounds and effects and that’s all great… but to me, there is something special about Call of Duty.” And this time around, the animation team put a whole lot of attention into the all of the details, to ensure the feeling of the weapons is as accurate as possible.

This extends to the ‘power’ of each and every weapon too; the feeling you get when you launch a satisfying projectile strike against an enemy who refuses to yield. This includes “interacting with the environment itself, so when you shoot these weapons, you feel the power of the weapon, but you also see the impact of the weapon within the game world, in terms of the sound and physics.” There’s a real difference between the impact a .50 cal round has when it hits a wall, compared to a smaller caliber round. Tag an enemy with a larger caliber round and they’re sent flying back, compared to a smaller round. Use beefier rounds to disintegrate doors more adeptly, too. Also expect to notice the difference the sound assault rifles make when you equip one with or without a muzzle brake, and the reverberations when such a weapon is firing in an enclosed room, or out in the open air.

Other animations and effects simply add additional layers of believability to the impact a weapon makes, so you’re not jarred out of the game’s reality by a lack of impact accoutrements: “We needed to do different effects on the weapon’s target, so that the power of these weapons translates into the targets that you shoot. The sparks, the smoke, the effects, all of it has to be representative of the power that you’re releasing from your weapon, so it all comes through with our effects.

In addition, Grigsby details how they have a new ‘Active Idle’ animation for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare where the character feels a sway and heaviness of the weapon when they stand still. When you move up the stairs, the weapons react to that. The weapons are much more responsive to the overall environment and make sure it feels realistic.

“We developed a new level of model fidelity,” Grigsby tells us: “Back in the day, we saw a lot of idle [animations] that moved more like you were on the deck of a ship, swaying back and forth. You don’t usually stand still in Modern Warfare, but when you do, we wanted to make sure it looked natural; real quick movements using your muscles. We call this the ‘Active Idle’. When you go up the stairs, we added a bit of movement on the weapon to make it look like it’s not bolted to the camera. When you look around, we wanted to do a little bit of leading with the head, and then the gun travels behind. Our previous Call of Duty games had a bit of that, but we’ve actually deep-dived into it this time around.”

They have also made significant updates to how the reloading animation works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The big change starts with a difference in how you reload based on if the magazine is empty, half full, or how many bullets are left.

“We worked on our reloads. The reload to me is the pinnacle of the weapon; it makes you feel – after you’ve taken down five different dudes in a room – and you reload, you go ‘shit yeah, you’re done!’ We wanted to bring that that flair but taken to a new level where it’s just like one animation.”

The animation for reloading even changes based on the magazine attached to the specific weapon.

“In the past, we would never physically show that transition of one mag to another, but this time around, everything’s physical, so if you have an extended mag, like a drum perhaps, or a long magazine, all of the movements within every reload are visceral, strong, aggressive, it gives another feeling of power and representing the Tier 1 operators that utilize these machines.”

A big new feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is that you can reload while Aim Down Sights in the game (ADS). That’s new for Call of Duty.

“One other thing we added this year is the ADS [Aiming Down Sight] reload. In the past, if you’re ADS, and you’re shooting and you reload, the weapon would go off to the side, and you’d have to retrain to get to your target. This time if you reload, it stays on the target, so you can stay in the battle.”

The scopes in Modern Warfare are also updated so that you can better see the environment and adjusted on the fly with the game.

Infinity Ward dev says ‘no comment’ to unconfirmed rumors of Battle Royale mode being in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

A new rumor has popped up on the internet this past week of a possible addition of a Battle Royale mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The rumor comes from YouTuber TheGamingRevolution who claims to know a person that has the information on what Infinity Ward is working on for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and claims that there is in fact a Battle Royale mode in development for the new title this year.

The video post to his channel, viewable here, states that a “source” tells him the Battle Royale mode is currently in development with 152 players and a map that is 3x the size of Black Ops 4’s Blackout. He also states that Infinity Ward is reportedly targeting 200 players for the mode.

We want to caution right out that this information is not confirmed by any means from anyone at Activision or Infinity Ward. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been announced to include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Co-Op mode only. Back in May, when we were at Infinity Ward, the studio declined to comment on the addition of such mode in this game.

In addition, information that CharlieINTEL last heard was that there was no Battle Royale mode in active development for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. TheGamingRevolution’s source claims that the mode was sent into development recently to be in the game.

A fan asked Infinity Ward’s Art Director, Joel Emslie, about this rumor and he replied with a GIF that says ‘No Comment.’

There’s no acknowledgment that this is real at all, but we will update as we get more information.

Infinity Ward responds to concerns on Modern Warfare saying ‘we’re making the exact game we want to make’

Infinity Ward has issued a tweet this afternoon in what appears to be a response to what Michael Condrey said about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at E3.

Infinity Ward has now responded on Twitter saying they’re making the exact game they want to make.

Michael Condrey claims IW is being ‘pushed’ by Activision executives to make Modern Warfare more ‘controversial and darker’

An interesting quote from Michael Condrey, former studio head of Sledgehammer Games (from 2009 through 2018), has surfaced in an interview with VentureBeat post-E3.

VentureBeat is one of the publications that found Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign to be particularly ‘disturbing’ in their preview article of the game last week during E3, which the sentiment was echoed by IGN and some other larger publications.

Infinity Ward has stated that they are not censoring Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, only re-iterating on the game as development process continues — the same for any project at this scale.

In this interview with Michael Condrey, he seems to be claiming that Activision executives might be pushing Infinity Ward to make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare more controversial and darker for the sake of headlines.

I maintain that video games are the most important art form of our time. I respect every developer who strives to deliver their work as an extension or reflection of their artistic vision. That said, MW seems like a tough challenge for any studio, especially if they are being pushed by publishing to be more controversial and “darker” for the sake of headlines.

This does not line up with what Infinity Ward has mentioned during our time at the studio; it seems more like everyone at the studio wanted to make this game and Activision executives were hesitant on how far they should take it, so we’re not sure where this quote from Condrey comes from or if he’s claiming this based on his sentiment of Activision executives.

Activision has been known to give the development teams creative freedom in developing their titles based on experience, providing approvals and budgeting as every publisher does in the video game industry.

Infinity Ward says we’re ‘almost there’ in regards to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare gameplay reveal

Many Call of Duty fans are getting impatient as the wait for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare public gameplay reveal continues.

Infinity Ward has shown off the gameplay behind closed doors during a press event back in late May at the studio and to press at E3, but the gameplay has not since been released to the public, leaving many fans asking for more information on the new game.

Infinity Ward’s art director Joel Emslie has teased on Reddit that we’re “almost there…stay on target.”

That’s still not a concrete date for when to expect more gameplay and information on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

There’s still plenty of time to go till the game’s launch (4 months), and there’s a lot of time left for Activision and Infinity Ward to showcase gameplay to fans of all the game’s modes.

Infinity Ward has usually stuck to revealing MP of their games in August/September time frame over the last several years, so that could also be the case this year.

Activision brings Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to NBA Draft in New York

Activision is allowing select NBA Draft players, alongside some New York Yankees MLB players, to get an early hands-on look at the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in New York this week.

The sponsored event was available for certain athletes this week in New York ahead of the upcoming NBA Draft.

Activision has been bringing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to events like this over the past month, including the NFL Draft in late April, prior to the game’s official announcement.

Activision does these types of events because they can bring their games to massive areas and free promotion from the athletes to get the game and its reach out to people beyond the gaming community. It’s effective marketing.
