Double XP and 2X Weapon XP live in Modern Warfare now through December 2

Infinity Ward is celebrating both the Holidays and the upcoming launch of Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with Double XP and Double Weapon XP!

The studio is activating Double XP and 2X Weapon XP in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Multiplayer from now through Monday, December 2 at 10AM PT.

Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare kicks off on Tuesday, December 3 at 10AM PT with a load of new content. Alongside the new season, with the new level progression system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Officer Ranks (ranks 56-155) will be reset back to Level 55.

Here’s some additional intel from Activision Blog:

On December 3, your Officer Rank achieved up until the start of Season 1 will be locked and memorialized with all the ribbons and final Officer Rank you have earned.

That, as well as the two weapon blueprints you may have unlocked for ranking up prior to Season 1 (the Hush at Rank 56, and O.G. at Rank 155 that D-Day is carrying in the previous image), should act as impressive bragging rights to your friends and the greater Call of Duty community!

At the start of Season 1, those who have made it into the Officer Ranks (Rank 56+) will have their Officer Rank refreshed, beginning a new journey up the Season 1 Officer Progression track (from Rank 56 to 155). Players will find another 100 ribbons to earn through a new set of challenges, leading up to a new and distinct animated emblem.

Anything you’ve earned in the Enlisted Ranks, as well as your Mission progress, Blueprint weapons, and Combat Record stats, will be carried over. If you haven’t reached the Officer Ranks by the time Season 1 begins (that is, you’re Rank 54 or less on December 3), you’ll continue to progress through the remaining Enlisted Ranks, before entering the Season 1 Officer Rank Progression.

Season 1 is almost here…stay tuned.

YouTuber asked Modern Warfare devs questions during event – Mini Map, Perks, And More

YouTuber Swagg attended a recent capture event at Infinity Ward studio this week where they were shown a look at the new Season 1 content.

Swagg says he had a chance to talk with Infinity Ward’s Joe Cecot, who is the MP Design Director. He shares in his video some of the answers he got for questions he asked during the studio visit.

Here’s a quick summary:

  • Aniyah Palace in Ground War: Currently focused on new Season 1 content, and they want to eventually add it to Ground War.
  • Dead Silence: For Pubs, they will lower the footstep volume overall. Devs working closely with pros to test out what works best.
  • Perk Balance: Cecot says Infinity Ward may have made some mistakes with perks and put too many in Perk 1 slot. They need to analyze more to see how to change it to balance it better.
  • Tank Nerf: IW is working on nerfing the tank to reduce the straight shots it can make to avoid camping on the hills.
  • Spawns in modes: Cecot says they are working on ways to improve the spawns across all modes and maps. Still figuring out best ways to balance it effectively.
  • Map Voting: They don’t want map voting because data from previous games shows that players leave if their vote does not win, which causes lobbies to break up. YouTubers suggested to add a Vote to Skip option; Cecot said they will look into this.
  • Staying in Same Lobby: In regards to staying in the same lobby after the match, there is an error in the game that does this often; they wanted it to be where you can stay in the same lobby but it resets every several games to change it up, but that did not get implemented fully into the game for launch.
  • Mini Map: They have no plans to change the mini map. The design of it now was how they intended for it to be in this game. Cecot said they want the UAV to be more of a reward. Swagg says they asked why Ghost is so powerful then and Cecot apparently said they would look at that more, but they want mini map to stay as is.
  • Damascus Camo Issues: They are working to fix issues with unlocking the camo, and they have fix coming soon.
  • Skill Based Matchmaking: At first Cecot mentioned that its a “hot topic” and he “ca’t really talk about it.” Matchmaking in Modern Warfare is “not the same as Infinite Warfare” and that it is “different in every Call of Duty.” He said that connection is “big priority.” He said they are “constantly tweaking it.”

Modern Warfare Season 1 First Details Announced – Fan Favorite Maps And More

Activision and Infinity Ward have announced the first details on Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Infinity Ward is shifting to a Season structure for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as they have removed the Season Pass model for this year’s game.

Season 1 will officially begin on December 3 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Activision says that not all content in the graphic will be released on December 3. Note that some of this content may drop later than the Season One start date of December 3, and additional content may be added to Season One.

Here’s the high level overview of what’s coming throughout the course of Season 1:

  • Two New Operators: Mara and Nikto
  • Teaser for a potential new equipment (Gas Barrel)
  • New 6v6 MP Maps:
    • Crash – The iconic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare map has returned with all the flanking routes and action-packed rooftop encounters you remember.
    • Vacant – An abandoned office, previously visited in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, leads to intense interior combat across the complex.
    • Shipment (6v6 Map & Gunfight Map) – The classic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare map where fast and frenetic action reigns supreme.
  • New Ground War Maps
    • Port – Battle across massive shipping crates, cranes, buildings and streets in this unique Ground War map experience.
  • New 2v2 Gunfight Maps
    • Cargo – An open-roof storage vessel for shipping containers, on docks of London.
    • Atrium – The centerpiece of a Verdansk palace, still intact despite the conflict raging nearby.
    • And more
  • New MP Modes:
    • Reinforce – A hybrid of Dom and S&D, a single-life mode with both teams competing for control of three flags.
    • Gunfight OSP – A tactically rich 2v2 mode with a twist: Begin with just your fists, and gather equipment as the match progresses.
    • Infected – It’s hunt or be hunted in this survival party game mode!
  • New Special Ops:
    • Bomb Squad – Forces still loyal to Barkov have planted explosives around the city of Al-Raab. You’re here to defuse the situation.
    • Grounded – Enemies have seized Barkov’s former airbase. Engage and eliminate them.
    • Pitch Black – Infiltrate Barkov’s former estate and recover all required intel before an exfill in a Tactical Rover.
    • Just Reward – Your squad targets the head of an enemy financial operation, hacking his data centers, and gaining intel.
    • And more
  • New Weapons
    • RAM-7 – Introducing a new fully automatic bullpup Assault Rifle with integrated picatinny rails at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.
    • Holger-26 – LMG spec of the Holger model rifle, with integrated sight rail and drum magazine for additional ammunition-carrying capacity.

Season 1 of Modern Warfare also brings the brand new Battle Pass system with both a free and premium track for players to earn cosmetic content in the game. This is the new system which replaces Loot Boxes.

Activision says in a blog post that “everyone” can earn some free content including the base versions of the new weapons.

Every single member of the Modern Warfare community can earn some of the tiers within the forthcoming battle pass system, including cosmetic items and two new base weapons.

We will update as more information is announced on Season 1.

Modern Warfare Snapchat AR teases new content for Season 1

Back during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP reveal in August, Activision sent a group of us a Snapchat AR code that, when activated through Snapchat, would showcase new intel on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The company has now once again updated the AR with intel on “new content” that is most likely coming with Season 1 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The AR for this takes you around a 360 degree circle to showcase new content, and we’ve put together in a list what we saw plus the best images we could grab.

  • New Operator: Mara
  • Teaser for a classified character
  • Teaser for a potential new equipment (gas barrel)
  • New Operator: Nikto
  • Teaser with soldier over looking what appears to be a new map (Crash, potentially)
  • New map: Atrium
  • New map: Cargo
  • Teaser for a Special Ops Experience

Here’s the set of images. The images in the gallery are in the order listed in the list above:

There is no indication as to when Season 1 starts in Modern Warfare yet. We’ll keep you updated.

Players are falling to their deaths in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer

When and where players spawn into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer maps has been a point of contention since before the original came out in 2007. But, the reboot of the franchise is having some unique issues all its own. Some players are spawning into the game in mid air, occasionally causing them to fall to their deaths.

The hilarity has been captured in a few high-ranking videos on Reddit. There’s been no response yet from the team at Infinity Ward, but we expect at least a small patch soon.

Modern Warfare got off to a rocky start. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the servers were stable, weapon imbalance issues were clear from the start. Before long, everyone was running around with one particular shotgun, which had incredible range and stopping power. It took multiple rounds of nerfs to finally bring it under control.

These spawn issues are fairly new, however. One video, embedded above, shows a handful of players falling to death in rapid succession. Another shows a player spawning in the same spot multiple times, only to be gunned down by an attack chopper orbiting overhead.

This isn’t the first bit of controversy that the game has brooked since launch. The single-player campaign in particular stood apart, both for its excellent gameplay and its uncomfortable portrayal of alleged American war crimes.

Gunfight Tournament Beta launches in Modern Warfare for a Limited Time

Activision and Infinity Ward have announced the launch of the Gunfight 2v2 Tournament system in a beta version inside of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – available starting today on all platforms.

This tournament system was announced back during the 2v2 Gunfight Alpha in August as a way to compete and level up in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Gunfight mode. It allows players to be match made into tournaments in a bracket structure and compete alongside a friend throughout the tournament. The brackets auto update and allow players to move up the system.

Here’s the details from Activision Blog:

Rules of Play

Gunfight is an intense cage match where players are given one life, one randomly chosen loadout, and one teammate to head into battle and eliminate the opposition. The gameplay of Gunfight remains the same during the tournament, but they are a few other things you need to know about on the road to victory.

The tournament is single elimination with 32 players, 16 teams, and 8 rounds on the way to being crowned the victor. You advance with a win or go back to the lobby with a defeat. For each victory you earn XP and other rewards. For winning the tournament for the first time you can earn a high tier cosmetic reward and XP!

The tournament is bracket style, and you’ll be able to see the teams on both sides of the bracket. You’ll wait at a menu screen before the match and have a little bit of time to choose your Operator and discuss game strategy. Afterwards you’ll load into the game and play your first round. If you win, you’ll advance to the next round. Just note, you may have to wait in the lobby until your opponent finishes their match.

Modern Warfare in-game message promotes PS4 exclusive Survival mode on Xbox One and PC

What’s really happening these days at Infinity Ward?

Beyond updates that have yet to deliver many of the fans expectations, a lack of communication from the studio, and no response to some hot topics across the community, the in-game message of the day in Modern Warfare is another mix up.

We just posted an article on how the message is promoting Aniyah Palace as a Ground War map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but the map is not even in the Ground War rotation.

In another mistake, the in-game message of the day is also showcasing Special Ops Survival mode on Xbox One and PC – a mode that is exclusively on PS4 till October 2020. The message of the day even literally says “A PlayStation® 4 Exclusive mode” but shows it on Xbox One and PC versions of the game.

A user on Reddit shared a screenshot from the PC version:

Hopefully Infinity Ward provides some form of communication about the state of Modern Warfare here soon..
