Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open PS4 Alpha Ends, Infinity Ward shares recap

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open PS4 Alpha has officially come to an end. Players on PS4 were able to try out the 2v2 Gunfight mode for the very first time.

Looking ahead, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Open Beta is coming up. We’ve got a post here highlighting all of the big pieces of information regarding the beta, and we’ll keep you updated as more information is shared.

Infinity Ward posted on Reddit a recap of this weekend’s Gunfight and a preview of what’s to come with the Open Beta.

From Infinity Ward:

On behalf of everyone at the studio, thank you for participating in the 2v2 Gunfight Open Alpha. From sharing your gameplay highlights with us to finding humor in our “proper English welcome”, it was truly inspiring for us to see so many 2v2 matches out in the wild.

Your feedback and suggestions have been incredibly valuable to us and have already contributed to creating a better game experience for everyone as we sprint toward the Beta next month and the full game launch on October 25th. So again, thank you!

If you’d like to see some of the feedback we’ve addressed along with other updates, check out our Day Two and Day Three recap posts here on Reddit.

Now. Let’s Talk Beta.

Post image

Coming up in September, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in one of the most important testing periods for our game. As we’ve mentioned, the 2v2 Gunfight Alpha was only a sliver of what’s to come and the Beta will be another chance for us to show you more of what Modern Warfare multiplayer has to offer.

Which means you probably have a lot of questions.

Before Weekend 1 of the Beta kicks off on September 12th, we’ll be sharing information about what you can expect to see when you hop online, including maps, modes, customization options, weapons, Operators, and much, much more. But it won’t stop there. Just like the Alpha, we’ll be online with you providing daily updates during both Beta weekends, so make sure you follow @InfinityWard on Twitter and check back here so you don’t miss any important intel.

Want to know how you can your hands on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta? Click HERE to get all the details!

And again, everyone at Infinity Ward,

THANK YOU!

All players in Modern Warfare Gunfight mode have blast shield on by default

One piece of feedback some users have been sharing with Infinity Ward in regards to the Gunfight mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is that some of the lethal equipment are not strong enough compared to the weapons overall, and result in hit markers many times in matches.

Infinity Ward has confirmed on Reddit that there’s a specific reason for this feeling, and it’s exclusive to the Gunfight 2v2 mode.

All players in Gunfight mode have Blast Shield enabled to prevent lethal equipment from being the main source of kills, as they wanted the mode the be about guns hence the name “Gun” fight.

This is by design for 2v2s, everyone has blast shield on by default. We made this change because there was a point during development where there were more kills with lethal equipment than with guns and “lethal fight” just doesn’t have the same ring to it 🙂 Don’t worry lethal equipment is strong in the core MP modes.

The Lethal equipment will be strong as usual, just like previous Call of Duty games, in the core Multiplayer modes available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open PS4 Alpha – Day 3 Recap and Updates

Another day of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open PS4 Alpha is coming to an end, and Infinity Ward has shared a new update on Reddit on what they added during Day 3 and what they are continuing to track in terms of feedback points for the game.

The studio has confirmed that they are looking into head glitches in the game, and more feedback points as they continue to track the community’s response.

Today also saw the addition of Stack, another Gunfight map to the rotation, alongside the Gunfight OSP mode.

From Infinity Ward:

It’s day three of the 2v2 Gunfight Open Alpha on PS4 and we’re back with another recap! Before we jump into the updates, we want to remind you that this Alpha is FREE to anyone who owns a PlayStation and you don’t need PlayStation Plus or a preorder to download and play.

Okay, let’s get to business!

Fixes and Content That Are Currently Live:

  • Stack: A new 2v2 map is now in rotation! Tomorrow is the last day of the Alpha, so be sure to hop online and check out all 5 maps!
  • Gunfight OSP: Instead of spawning in with a loadout, Gunfight: OSP is a variant where you’ll need to pick up weapons, lethals, and tacticals in the map

Issues We’re Looking Into:

We know this isn’t all of the feedback you’ve shared over the past three days, but here are some updates on a few issues we’ve frequently been seeing:

  • Head glitches
  • Explosives that cause damage through multiple surfaces
  • Inconsistencies with penetrable surfaces (metal containers, wood surfaces, etc.)
  • Freezing that results in a black screen when loading into a match
  • Picking up equipment in Gunfight: OSP won’t auto-pickup if you press square within a certain distance

While playing, if you experience an error and see an error code on screen, please take a quick picture and send it to us on here or via Twitter. It’s super helpful in determining what’s causing the problem. To see what other issues we’re looking into, check out our Day Two recap HERE.

Lastly, thank you again for taking part in our Alpha. The suggestions, feedback, and bugs you’ve shared with us just goes to show how genuine and passionate you are about this game…and this is just a small dose of what you’ll see compared to the upcoming Beta in September and launch in October, so thank you! Be sure to check back for more information and follow us on Twitter, @InfinityWard, where we’ll be sharing your best clips, answering questions, and more.

Infinity Ward teases possible Gunfight variant mode with respawn enabled in Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward developers continue to be active on social platforms, including both Reddit and Twitter, talking about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the Gunfight 2v2 Alpha continues on PS4 this weekend.

A user on Reddit asked about the possibility of a Gunfight variant mode where respawn would be enabled, and players can play to an overall kill score on the 2v2 maps versus just round based Gunfight.

The user asked, “Can you make a 2v2 respawn mode as well? Like a first to 20 type mode?”

Infinity Ward’s MP Director Joe Cecot responded with a tease of what might be coming:

We have some things.

He did not elaborate on what that means or when we could see such a mode.

Thus far, we’ve only see one variant of the Gunfight in the Alpha called Gunfight OSP, where players spawn with a pistol and have to scavenge the map for different items to pick and use – almost Battle Royale like.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open PS4 Alpha Update adds new mode and map

Another day, another update for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open Alpha on PlayStation 4! Infinity Ward deployed an updated overnight bringing some new content to the mix.

As we get closer to the end of the Open Alpha for the game, Infinity Ward has released a new playlist update to the Alpha to bring some new content for players to test out.

The new update includes the final map, Stack, added to the overall rotation.

The update also brought Gunfight OSP, which works similar to how players expect a Battle Royale to work. All players only start with a pistol and then must scavenge the map for other equipment and items as the match goes on to build their load out in the 2v2 scenario.

The Open Alpha for PS4 is currently set to end on August 25 at 10AM PT. We’ll update if there’s any changes to the end timing.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open PS4 Alpha Day 2 Recap

Infinity Ward has posted on Reddit a recap of some of the fixes that are now live for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Alpha on PS4, a list of what the feedback that they are aware of, alongside a preview of some new content coming this weekend as the Alpha continues.

The studio has confirmed that the Stack map for the Gunfight mode is on the way this weekend, alongside some variations of the 2v2 mode to bring new play styles and weapon choices.

From Infinity Ward:

We’re only on day two of the 2v2 Gunfight Open Alpha on PS4 and the response we’ve received from you, the community, has been incredible. Your feedback and suggestions are being heard by everyone at the studio, so thank you and please keep them coming!

And let’s not forget that Gunfight is only a small slice of what our Multiplayer experience has to offer, so every Tweet, comment, post, and video you make helps us make the game that much better as we march towards the Multiplayer Beta coming in September.

Now, back to the Alpha. We know there’s been some confusion around whether or not you’ll need to preorder the game or have PlayStation Plus in order to download and play in the Alpha. To answer simply, nope! The 2v2 Gunfight Alpha is FREE and open to anyone who owns a PlayStation, no strings attached!

With that, we’re excited to share several updates based on your valuable feedback and bug reporting, so let’s jump in with some fixes and new content we’re adding to the game TODAY.

Fixes That Are Currently Live:

  • Docks: A new 2v2 map is now in rotation! When we pushed the playlist update live earlier today, players were unable to connect to online services as a result. As of now, connection issues should be recovering, so thank you all for your patience as we worked through this.
  • M19 Pistol: Damage increased at longer ranges (now a minimum 5 shot kill instead of 6)
  • Improved Idle Player Handling (AFK): If at the end of a match you have not touched your controller within two rounds, you’ll be removed from matchmaking.
  • Improved matchmaking for solo microphone users – you’re now much more likely to find a teammate with a microphone.

Feedback We’re Working On:

This doesn’t begin to cover all of the feedback you’ve sent us of course, but here are some updates on a few we’ve frequently been seeing.

  • Settings not saving in the options menu: This can be resolved by making sure you aren’t logged in with multiple PSN accounts or profiles.
  • Audio Mix: While in the Audio tab of the Settings menu, you can set your mix preset and adjust some basic volume tuners. We recommend using Headphone 1, TV1, or Infinity Ward Mix for the best experience.
  • Player and Enemy Footsteps: Audio for first-person footsteps has been lowered and falloff audio for enemy footsteps has been raised. You’ll hear these changes in the upcoming Beta.
  • Look Sensitivity: The default setting is currently set at Medium 3. Make sure you jump into your settings and adjust your sensitivity to fit your playstyle before heading into a match.
  • Enemy Nameplate Visibility: We’ve seen a lot of comments about how the enemy nameplate is sometimes visible behind cover and can make shooting at long distances a bit distracting. This is something we’re keeping an eye on and will continue to monitor as we move towards Beta.
  • Black and White Screen At Low Health: In Gunfight, you only have one life and no health regeneration. If you’ve been hit and are at less than 25 health, your screen will flash black and white to visually show you that your life could end fairly quickly with another blow.
  • “Proper English Welcome!” : This dialogue is currently playing too frequently at the beginning of each match. We’ll be tuning this to happen less often during the Beta.
  • Keyboard and Mouse Settings: These settings are not fully fleshed out in the Alpha. You’ll have more options, including key binding, when we hit the Beta in September.
  • Matchmaking and Faction Names Are Barely Visible: While in matchmaking, the text for “Searching for a Match” along with both Faction names are barely visible in the lobby. These will be easier to read in the Beta.
  • Scopes on Shotguns: They can be pretty powerful, especially from across the map. The one you’re playing with in Gunfight, the 725, is a longer barrel shotgun with a tighter shot pattern. We’ll update the text in the loadout menu to reflect that it has a much longer range than a regular shotgun.

Upcoming!

We aren’t done yet! As we roll into the weekend, we’ll be adding yet another new map and a Gunfight variant into the rotation!

MAP: STACK

Post image

2v2 “Pickup” Variant

The rules are the same, but this time you’ll only spawn with a pistol. Weapons, lethals, and tacticals are randomly spread in the map, so you’ll need to pickup your loadout as you fight to stay alive!

Again, THANK YOU. We’re thankful to have a community that is so passionate about what we’re doing, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have you with us every step of the way. We’ll continue to update you with known bugs and planned fixes each day during the Alpha, so please be sure to check back for more information and follow us on Twitter, @InfinityWard, where we’ll be sharing your best clips, answering questions, and more.

New update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Alpha adds Docks map

Infinity Ward has released a playlist update for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open Alpha on PlayStation 4 today, and it’s brought in a new map for players to try out.

The update has made “Docks” Gunfight map live now for players to checkout in-game, alongside the previously released Pine, King, and Speedball.

A London shipyard with vessels traveling along the river behind one team’s infil point, with the other team spawning in street-side due west. Buildings 51 – the Foreman’s office – and 52 – the crew’s quarters – are two-story brick structures that define the map’s north and south, with a bridge connecting the two over a concrete walkway. The walkway under the bridge’s center – which also sits over a concrete waterway running east to west – serves as the overtime flag’s location.

Throughout this one weekend, there will be one additional map added to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Gunfight Open Alpha called Stacks, which was showcased during the MP Reveal stream earlier in August.

There may be other surprises as well throughout the weekend, including new weapons, class variations in Gunfight, and more for this one weekend of the Open Alpha.

Stay tuned for updates throughout the weekend!

Footstep audio changes coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in Beta

Another big piece of feedback from the call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Open Alpha has been about the footsteps audio in game.

Many fans have noticed that footstep audio is quite loud for player’s own footsteps and quieter for other players while they’re walking around. It’s harder to hear where enemies are, while you can easily hear your own footsteps – which is unnecessary.

Infinity Ward’s Ashton Williams has confirmed on Twitter that the they will be making changes to footstep audio in game.

They will be reducing first person audio footsteps and raising the audio footsteps of other players in the game. This update will be ready for the Beta.

Infinity Ward to add additional mouse and keyboard settings to PS4 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

With the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Open Alpha on PlayStation 4, Infinity Ward enabled the ability for players to connect their keyboard and mouse and play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare through the Alpha.

For this Alpha, it does appears that keyboard/mouse and controller players are in mixed lobbies for testing as it is just an Alpha on platform, but Infinity Ward has not explicitly stated this. Infinity Ward confirmed that keyboard and mouse players can party up with controller players in the Alpha.

The studio also confirmed on Reddit that they plan to add additional keyboard and mouse settings, including sensitivity options, to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare across platforms — allowing players to use whatever input device they would like on platforms. The additional settings will be available in the Beta as well.

Not all of the settings are in just yet. You’ll have them for beta.

With Cross Play in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, players can play with their friends on any platform through matchmaking. The studio did state that at launch the matchmaking will be input based allowing controllers to play against controllers and KBM to play against KBM. The lobbies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also showcase an icon next to player’s names indicating their input device.
