Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Ground War mode has an interesting forfeit system in place in the cases where a team is unable to stand their ground in the game. 

It’s called “DEFCON.” 

When you see the DEFCON on the top of your screen, it’s combined with a 30 second countdown timer. This activates when one team has captured and holds all 5 flags in Domination. Once all 5 flags are captured by a single team, the DEFCON notice appears on the top of the screen. 

If the enemy team is unable to capture at least one flag within the 30 second countdown of DEFCON, then a tactical nuke goes off and the match ends. 

This works regardless of which team is leading the game at that point. Your team could be down over 100 points in the match, but if you get a good break – and your team secures all five flags for 30 seconds, then your team wins the match – regardless of the score at that point. 

It’s an interesting addition to the Ground War mode, and one of the first times such a forfeit system exists in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

While we were playing, it was a satisfying feeling to get that DEFCON enabled especially when you are down for a majority of the game. 

There could be room for some improvements here – like the timer stopping if a flag is contested  or if the enemy team is on the flag, but right now, the 30 second timer keeps going until a flag is re-secured by the enemy team.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features many ways to earn new content just by playing and completing set of challenges. 

There’s Daily Challenges, described in our post here, but there’s also another feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Missions. 

Missions are multi-step challenges that can be completed for XP rewards and bonus special rewards. At launch, there will be a set of missions that you can chose and activate. You can only have one mission activated at a time. 

Each Mission Challenge will have between 5-8 objectives. Completing each objective will earn you XP bonuses or a cosmetic item. Every single Mission Challenge has a final loot reward: a special cosmetic weapon variant. 

The cosmetic weapon variant is different for each of the Mission Challenges you complete. 

Objectives within each mission feature different things like get 30 personal radars or get 30 kills with an Assault Rifle providing additional things to work towards in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Again, this is all for just playing the game. 

Infinity Ward confirmed to CharlieIntel during our recent event that Mission Challenges in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be updated with a new set during the new post launch content seasons. But there’s a key thing to note, per Infinity Ward: the Missions will not be removed from the tab when the season ends. So if you pick up the game during Christmas or join in late, you will see all the Missions that have been released since launch and you can activate and complete any of them on your timetable – not restricted to each Season.

The Making of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare art book, which was announced earlier this year, is available now for purchase on Amazon ahead of the game’s launch.

The new art book provides in depth look at how the team created many of the art inside of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, how the game was designed, characters, maps, and more were put together for this year’s title.

As you’ll learn throughout this book, the various art used in a Call of Duty game is typically broken down into four teams or departments: character, weapon, vehicle, and environment. In the creation of something as grand as a Multiplayer map or Campaign level, all art departments are utilized to bring everything to life.

• Character – The team that designs everything that relates to the characters in all the modes of the game.
• Weapon – The team that designs all of the weapons. This typically includes attachments and camos.
• Vehicle – The team that designs all of the vehicles in the game. This can include drive-able vehicles like the Infantry Tank and Killstreaks like the Wheelson.
• Environment – The team that designs all of the set pieces within a map or level.  This can include trees, buildings, and posters/flyers that may be strewn about the environment.

One of the changes with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare having Crossplay support is that players are required to have an Activision and Call of Duty account in order to play the game.

If you played the Modern Warfare beta, you should have already had a Activision account registered and created in order to play the game then. That same account will let you play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at launch if you’re buying the game this week.

Here’s how to create an Activision account on Call of Duty website:

Visit the Call of Duty website and then hit Login | Sign Up on the website in the top nav bar. From there, enter the required information and link your PlayStation, Xbox, and PC accounts in order to support crossplay and cross progression.

Activision Support provides for info on how to sign up and log in to the Activision Account directly from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game when it launches. Creating and registering online will save time to ensure you are set to play when the game is available.

Activision Support also provides details on how to change your Activision Display ID in game to match what you want it to match. The Activision Display ID can be different than your platform ID.

Signing Up

The Account Creation screen requires you to enter a Display Name, a valid email address, and a password. You will also need to set your region and decide whether to receive marketing emails before confirming your account.

After accepting the Call of Duty Account Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, your account registration will complete and your Account Summary will display.

Note that the Account Summary includes your Activision ID, which is the name that you will appear as in game.

Logging In

If you already have an Activision/Call of Duty account, simply enter your email address and password. After logging in, your Account Summary will display.

Activision ID

After signing up or logging in, you’ll see that your Activision ID includes a hash mark followed by a series of numbers (ex: DisplayName#1234567). This number is unique to your Activision/Call of Duty account and allows players with the same Gamertag, PSN ID, or BattleTag to keep their names while differentiating them in game. The number also makes account creation easier, eliminating the need to see if a name is available.

Changing your Display Name

The in-game Change Display Name feature is not enabled in the Beta. However, you can change your Display Name online.

1. Log in to your Activision/Call of Duty account.
2. Select BASIC INFO.
3. Select EDIT next to your ACTIVISION ID and enter your desired Display Name.

Activision is teasing a new collaboration for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with Adidas and PUSHA_T in a new Twitter video shared on Call of Duty social channels.

The video showcased Modern Warfare logo, alongside Adidas and King Push.

Pre-Loading of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now live across all platforms including PC.

PC players who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Blizzard Battle.net can now pre-load Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ahead of the game’s launch on October 24 at 9PM ET.

In order to pre-order and pre-load Modern Warfare on PC, players need to have a Battle.net account and use the Battle.net app in order to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The Battle.net app should let you install the game now once opening the app.
