Former Battlefield Marketing Manager responds to Modern Warfare trailer, says EA/DICE have to ‘step it up’

The former Battlefield Marketing Manager has posted a tweet responding to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Reveal trailer this week.

Popular Battlefield YouTube JackFrags has been uploaded Call of Duty gameplay recently as part of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP Reveal. One of his videos had some discussions regarding the announced 100+ player Ground War MP mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a number which surprised many fans for a Call of Duty game to have.

Previous to this, Battlefield was known to have the biggest player counts for an FPS on consoles, with their “iconic” 64 player modes in Battlefield games over the years. This year’s Battlefield V has had a rough year with fans, as many fans have complained about DICE’s lack of features and updates to the game, alongside a big consideration to BFV’s Battle Royale versus the core modes that fans loved Battlefield for.

The Marketing Manager responded that EA/DICE have to ‘step it up’ going forward as Call of Duty is now going to reach 100+ player mode in core MP before Battlefield can.

“@EA_DICE will need to step it up. Enough with visual focus, people care about gameplay.

Battlefield has focused extensively on the visuals for the games with overly done destruction, crazy amount of graphics, and more, but the focus on gameplay in recent Battlefield games has lacked a lot for the fanbase.

GameInformer video teases fan favorite weapons returning in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

UPDATE: GameInformer’s video has revealed some additional weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, including a look at the P90 in the loadout menu, the return of the Dragunov, and more.

The menus also reveal that players can choose melee weapons as either primary or secondary weapons in the game.

Checkout the images below:

Original Story:

GameInformer announced this past week that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is their cover story for the month of September, and they’ll be dropping extensive coverage of the game starting on August 6, including info on MP and the campaign.

As part of this, the gameplay that GameInformer recorded for MP of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was recorded at the Infinity Ward studios on the studios’ latest build versus the gameplay we shared on a set build for the MP event coverage.

With that, the gameplay video they shared actually features additional weapons that we didn’t get a chance to see.

The video confirms that the FAL is returning, and it looks similar to the previous Modern Warfare versions.

In addition, you can also see that the P90 will be returning to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

You can watch GameInformer’s video here:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature outlines to identify friendlies in maps

UPDATE: GameInformer shared their gameplay video of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare this week, and GameInformer revealed that Modern Warfare is their cover story for the month. Because of that, the gameplay GameInformer recorded was actually done at the Infinity Ward studio with the latest build of the game, instead of a build made for a specific event (with the gameplay we captured).

In their build, the player outlines was working at intended, and this is what it looks like:

Original Story:

With the lack of mini-map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it’s a bit harder to see where your teammates are at all times in the maps.

The game does show a smaller indicator and their name when in your view, but if they’re inside buildings or around objects, there’s no identifier to showcase where they are.

The studio confirmed during the stream this past week that they plan to have outlines for teammates on the maps, but that feature had a bug and was not ready for the build they showcased during the MP reveal event. The final game will in fact have the outlines for teammates, and the outlines will only be shown when a teammates move behind objects or in buildings to help identify where players are.

The outlines are proximity based. Also they would all have to be occluded behind geometry for an outline to be necessary. Outlines only appear when friendlies are behind things.

Although many fans would just prefer a mini-map, Infinity Ward devs have stated that they will monitor the feedback about this during the upcoming beta for Modern Warfare and will then decide what to do. The studio says they prefer fans to get hands on and then report back versus basing their decisions off of just watching gameplay.

Infinity Ward will monitor feedback on mini-map during Modern Warfare beta

A heated topic coming out of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP reveal this week was the lack of the mini-map being enabled by default.

We shared our article this week about our impressions of it, and stated that the lack of the mini-map effected the flow of the game because it caused players to be hesitant to move without understanding where the areas of the map are or where the gunshots are coming from. We shared this feedback extensively with Infinity Ward developers both at this event and back during our studio visit in May.

Many fans have started to comment on their thoughts regarding the lack of the mini-map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward’s Art Director has responded to some stating that they will monitor the feedback with the beta, but has stated that it’s best to play it first, experience it, and then provide feedback versus basing your feedback off of just our gameplay.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Open Beta will take place in September, starting Sept. 12 on PlayStation. The full schedule for the Open Beta can be viewed here.

Infinity Ward currently focused on ‘core multiplayer’ in Modern Warfare versus Battle Royale

Infinity Ward’s MP Design Director Joe Cecot has commented on the possibility of a Battle Royale mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

There have been rumors suggested Infinity Ward was developing a BR mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but based on Cecot’s comments, it appears that they are not looking at such a mode for Modern Warfare for now.

He stated that Modern Warfare and Black Ops 4 have a “different feeling” with them.

“We really focused on Modern Warfare, authentic and gritty, realistic weapons, and it’s a different experience. It’s really…just about pulling back to Modern Warfare and keeping that pure,” Cecot said.

He followed up that they are focused on a core MP right now for Modern Warfare.

Joe told IGN “[Infinity Ward has] big fans of battle royale. We’re excited for large player counts and things like that, but right now we’re really focused on core multiplayer.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare already has a 2v2 mode, 6v6 mode, 10v10, and a 20v20 mode in the game. The studio also revealed this week that the game will feature a Ground War MP mode that has more than 100 players.

Cecot tells IGN that the studio has been working with network engineerings to ensure that they can support these larger player modes in core MP.

“We have pushed our networking engineers to allow us to have more players,” Cecot said. “On the technical side, we’ve had to do a ton of work on the multiplayer side to make things more efficient so we could push the player counts higher and higher and higher.”

Based upon his comments, it looks like there is no plans for a Battle Royale mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s post launch to feature ‘regular distribution of content’ with free maps and more

The PlayStation Blog shared 22 things you should know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP, and one of the big pieces of news that has been shared regularly since the game’s reveal is that there is no Season Pass.

The PlayStation Blog got a quote from Joe Cecot, Infinity Ward Design Director, that states they plan to bring free maps and content consistently throughout the post launch season.

Instead, an ongoing array of free downloadable maps and content will release post launch. “We just revealed, so it’s a little early to talk post-launch, but we can say that it will be a regular distribution of content,” Cecot said. “We have a very full post-launch schedule, because we want players to jump into our game and we want to keep them really busy with new content for a long time.”

It’s not clear yet exactly how Infinity Ward is planning to do post launch content with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beyond this quote above. Previous Infinity Ward games have had the 4 DLC Packs throughout the year with other mixed in events for the game with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 moved away from the DLC Packs system and did content drops throughout the year with the Black Ops Pass, splitting up content to release more often. Many fans did not like some of the slower updates for Black Ops 4.

We also don’t know yet how many maps Infinity Ward plans to release post-launch for this game across the different modes. The last Infinity Ward title brought 16 maps post launch; Black Ops 4 is only bringing a total of 12 maps for players total this year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will support keyboard-mouse play on consoles

Infinity Ward has revealed in interviews with websites and PlayStation Blog that players who want to play with keyboard and mouse on consoles will be available to do so with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has cross play support between PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and the studio confirmed they will be matchmaking by peripheral input device.

Joe Cecot, MP Design Director, has confirmed to PlayStation Blog that keyboard and mouse will be supported on PS4 (and confirmed elsewhere with Xbox One).

At its unveil event, Infinity Ward confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will support cross-play between PC and console players — a first for the series. How is the studio balancing mouse-and-keyboard users with controller users? “One of the main ways is that we are planning on matchmaking based on peripheral,” Design Director Joe Cecot said. “We’re also supporting different peripherals, so if you want to plug a keyboard [and mouse] into your PS4, you can.”

Infinity Ward still determining if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will support cross-save

Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have Cross Play ability between PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, but now fans are asking if the game will have cross-save ability to transfer their saves and items between the platforms.

Infinity Ward was asked about this on social channels this week, and Design Director Joe Cecot has stated the they are ‘still figuring this out.’

Cecot did state that more information would be coming in the future in regards to this feature, but it would be a nice addition for the game to have alongside Cross Play.

Players will still have to buy the base game on each platform separately, but having the ability to bring all the content, levels, and more between each system would be helpful for those who like to play on more than one platform.
