Infinity Ward developer confirms Cross Play is working in studio between all platforms

Infinity Ward’s Studio Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki has confirmed on Twitter that Cross Play feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is fully working as intended in the studio between all platforms, despite some constant rumors you might be hearing.

Kurosaki confirmed in series of tweets that Cross Play is working between PS4 and Xbox One, and of course PC cross play was confirmed by Activision during the reveal day press release.

In a second tweet, he confirmed it’s working between PS4 and Xbox One as well:

And, to reassure fans, he confirmed that cross play between consoles and PC is also working and in the game:

So don’t believe everything you hear if its not from an official source…

Infinity Ward says they will share gameplay of Modern Warfare ‘when we’re ready’

One of the big aspects of E3 this year was many fans expectations that there would be gameplay revealed from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at some point during the week.

Activision and Call of Duty are partnered once again with PlayStation with marketing, and PlayStation skipped out on E3 this year, making it complicated for Activision to share gameplay without a large stage with a large audience that the PlayStation E3 conference brings.

Infinity Ward’s Senior Communications Manager replied to a Reddit post about fans looking for more info at E3 saying they’ll share gameplay only when they’re ready too.

Here’s Ashton’s full reply:

One of the best parts about revealing the game (which was two weeks ago) is talking about it with as many people as we can. We’ve been holding in so much since we started this project that finally being able to talk about it is a relieving and incredibly exciting feeling. We know you all want new info, gameplay, etc., and we can’t wait to share all of that with you when we’re ready.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s launch is still over fourth months away, so there’s plenty of time for Infinity Ward to showcase gameplay and tons of details on the game. Infinity Ward usually sticks to the classic Call of Duty reveal style — with reveal in mid to late May, multiplayer reveal in August/September, and co-op close to launch. There’s a lot of time left, and there’s plenty to reveal.

Infinity Ward is still deciding how disturbing they want to make Modern Warfare’s campaign

Back in late May when we went to Infinity Ward to check out an early look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, one of the immediate shocks behind the game was how real it was and how emotional the story missions will be — bringing a new level of realism to this franchise for the first time since No Russian back in 2009 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

One out of the two missions we saw was a flashback mission as players are taught why Farah becomes a rebel fighter and why her life was completely changed because of events in her childhood. During this specific mission, the players will play as Farah, and we’ve got a full description of the missions here in case you missed.

One aspect of this mission which was very disturbing during the studio visit was that when Farah and her brother are navigating the area in stealth, you overhear Russian soldiers taking out civilians on the ground that are unable to move because of nerve gas. However, at one point, there’s a Russian soldier that says to round up the women and children because their boss “likes the young ones.”

Now, Kotaku is reporting that at E3 Activision PR told them that the line is being removed from the game, a change to a scene just a few weeks after we got to see it. Activision made no indication to us that specific line was being removed during our visit, but they were candidate in discussing that they are still figuring out many aspects of the engagement in this game and how far they want to take certain aspects. It’s a fine line that Infinity Ward is walking with this game. Activision at E3 2019 is showcasing gameplay demos of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign missions behind closed doors only. This could be a reason why gameplay is not shown to the public yet.

Kotaku even asked Infinity Ward developers about the “likes the young ones” lines, and got this response from the game’s Campaign Director, Jacob Minkoff:

“Part of the reality of war is that there are people who face unpleasant events, and there is a portion—I’m really trying to work around spoilers—but what we don’t want to shy away from is the realities that some people face in war,” Minkoff said. “And some of those things are touched upon in the storyline. All I can tell you is that, as with every case, we have many consultants on staff.”

Activision PR told Kotaku at their behind closed door sessions that Infinity Ward is removing that line from the game, and that specific line was reportedly meant to be foreshadowing a scene that was coming up later in the campaign, but that scene has also been removed from the game.

With how real and emotional this story is taking Call of Duty, Infinity Ward will have to be careful navigating a fine line of realism and how far disturbing they are trying to go. My impressions of this game also discussed this back during the reveal, as this game is coming into a world where politics is in a tricky place, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is one wrong line away from making headlines in a bad way.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – First Multiplayer Screenshots Teased

During the E3 Coliseum Panel today, Infinity Ward developers provided a first two screenshots of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer.

Both of the screenshots are in-game images running on the new engine that Infinity Ward has created for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The first screenshots showcases the return of the Gillie Suit in MP, alongside a silenced sniper rifle.

The second image showcased teased the return of Juggernaut suit in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. When this image was shown, Infinity Ward mentioned that it was also part of Spec Ops for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a single game across modes in ‘same world’ and ‘rules’

During the YouTube E3 show, Infinity Ward’s developers joined the show to talk about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and re-echoed a point first mentioned during the reveal day about the game being a continuous game across campaign, MP, and co-op.

On the stream, Infinity Ward stated that the entire game is in the ‘same world’ with the ‘same rules.’

What’s interesting about the game this year, and we’ve set out to do this since day 1 is its one game. Its one consistent universe for the entirety of the game. It’s not a bunch of modes as you play, you are playing Modern Warfare. No Zombies in Modern Warfare; Zombies wouldn’t fit into a world we live in today. The point is is whether you’re playing in Co-Op or Multiplayer or Single-Player, you’re playing in the same world, the rules are all the same.

And, across all modes, weapons and equipment will work the same allowing players to learn the abilities and how weapons work in other modes and carry that strategy to other modes in the game.

One piece of equipment works the same across all the modes, one weapon works the same. You start to really learn how much it takes to hit an AI or how can I use this tactically.

The stream also confirmed the Spec Ops is in fact that co-op mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, with more details on that available here.

Spec Ops confirmed to return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward has confirmed during the YouTube E3 show that Spec Ops is the Co-Op mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Infinity Ward had only mentioned during the reveal that it was a elite operation mode, but now it is confirmed to be Spec Ops — returning to Call of Duty for the first time since Modern Warfare 3 in 2011.

They mentioned on stream that it is “Spec Ops like you’ve never seen before” and is cranked up to 11th power with features and how the new mode works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The campaign of the game will tie into and carry over into the Spec Ops mode.

Here’s what Infinity Ward said on the YouTube E3 show:

Co-Op is going to be the same thing. In the previous Modern Warfare games, there was a mode called Spec Ops, and we’re going to have Spec Ops in the new Modern Warfare as well. But its Spec Ops like you’ve never seen before; Spec Ops to the 11th power. Crank the knob off, break it, and then throw it away.

It can have a narrative this time. The narrative goes across all the modes. It’s one universe. We have a saying at the studio, “consistency and continuity” in all modes. So, the story continues in all modes.

All the weapons, equipment, and more are the same across all modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
