Rumor: Modern Warfare Battle Royale mode to come in early 2020, will be free to play

A new rumor floating around from some people is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will in fact have a Battle Royale mode in the game, but with some exceptions.

The rumor, first reported by LongSensation, is that the Battle Royale mode in the game will be coming in early 2020 and will miss the October launch of the rest of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game.

The second part of the rumor is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale mode is free to play and will be a separate download for the game, but it will still be integrated overall into the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare universe.

Activision has reportedly been internally discussing the possibility of a free to play component for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, per Kotaku’s article from May. The company has been trying to understand how to tap into the new market of free to play, but overall, the direction still has been the standard $60 game.

In another tweet, LongSensation stated that the intro screen for the BR mode will showcase Infinity Ward, Raven Software, and Activision logos.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25 with the campaign, MP, and Spec-Ops mode. But beyond that, the Battle Royale mode has been up in the air in regards to what’s happening.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is being developed by multiple studios with Infinity Ward as lead. The game has High-Moon Studios, Beenox, and Raven all supporting the development of the game.

As always, this is just a rumor. Activision has not officially announced a Battle Royale mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Everything we know about the Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

As first announced during the MP Gameplay Premiere event, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have an Open Beta in September, allowing fans worldwide to get their hands on the game before the launch on October 25.

The Open Beta will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Beta Schedule

Weekend 1 – PlayStation 4 Only

  • Pre-Order Early Access: September 12 – September 13
  • Open Beta: September 14 – September 16

Weekend 2

PlayStation 4

  • Open Beta: September 19 – September 23

Xbox One

  • Pre-Order Early Access: September 19 – September 20
    Open Beta: September 21 – September 23

PC

  • Pre-Order Early Access: September 19 – September 20
  • Open Beta: September 21 – September 23

Exact timing for when the beta starts and ends on those days will be announced soon.

How To Get Early Access

Each of the weekends features an Early Access Period for the Open Beta for those who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

If you’re pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare digitally on the PlayStation 4 Store, Xbox One Store, or Blizzard Battle.net for PC, you do not need any additional codes. You will automatically be granted access to the beta once it becomes available for your platform.

If you’re pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at a retailer, the retailer needs to give you a code to redeem on the Call of Duty website. From what we’ve learned thus far, if you have redeemed a code from a retailer for the Captain Price Blackout Character, you should also be enrolled for the Beta Early Access code. You can redeem your code at http://www.callofduty.com/beta. Once you’ve redeemed there, Activision will send you an email with the Beta Token to use on your platform to download and play the beta closer to the beta’s start date.

Pre-Loading

Activision’s FAQ notes that more information regarding Pre-Loading the Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available closer to the start date. In years past, pre-loading of the beta has usually been available for those who digitally pre-ordered the game. Beta Tokens for retailer pre-orders usually are sent at the start of the beta times, so there’s less time to pre-order the game.

Beta Content

Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to confirm the content that will be included in the Open Beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beyond saying it’s an MP Beta.

The Open Beta will most likely include customization content for fans, including Gunsmith. It’s not clear if all of the modes (2v2, 6v6, 10v10, 20v20, or the Ground War) will be in the beta. We’ll update this post as Activision shares more details on the upcoming Open Beta.

Stay tuned for the latest news on the beta as we get closer to September 12. This post will be updated as more information is available, alongside new articles about new details for the beta.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Ground War mode is set in a huge map with vehicles, 64+ players

GameInformer has just started their exclusive coverage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as the game is their cover story for this month. GameInformer has released their Cover Story of when they visited Infinity Ward, which has just some new details on the MP experience in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The cover story reveals that GameInformer had a chance to actually play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Ground War mode at the Infinity Ward Studio. GameInformer says that the mode version they played was 64 players, but Activision has since said in a press release that the mode supports more than 100 players.

GameInformer describes this mode similar to that of large-scale Battlefield style maps. The mode for this large map is Domination, 5-Flag capture style similar to that of the 20v20 mode.

GameInformer says that the map has “lots of open space, high sight-lines from key landmarks, and areas with sparse cover.”

The mode features many landmarks across the map and smaller corridors for combat. The map features vehicles, choppers, and more and is set in a downtown of a city with skyscrapers and even banks in the area. GameInformer says in the match they played “choppers fly by, smashing into buildings as whorls of infantry scatter and merge from cover on the streets below.”

Choppers whiz by above while players spawn into secured locations and even APCs on the move, planning their next cap point. Cover is everywhere in the side alleys and between buildings, but watch yourself carefully if you’re planning to trek the spacious roads, as they provide little protection and can turn into everything from small scale-skirmishes on the fly around upturned cars to sniper massacres. You’re incredibly exposed in these areas, so judicious use of smoke, fast movement from cover to cover, and working as incursion teams are all critical to success if you plan to spend any time on these expanses of concrete.

From mini-assaults into areas between towering buildings to huge team assaults on the bank, there’s a ton going on in Ground War and death comes swift as ever – there are no fixed classes like support or assault, instead, you can bring in any loadout that you can conjure up from any of the other standard multiplayer modes and change it as needed during the course of a war.

Ground War mode will deliver an epic scale of combat for the very first time in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

GameInformer’s Cover Story is available as part of their magazine here.

New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Teaser Clip teases the Tactical Infiltration for MP matches

Activision has continued to tease the MP mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with a look at the new starting up animation for each MP match.

The video teased a helicopter style entrance for the match and then gets off to join into the countdown. This is not the only entrance style there is in Modern Warfare MP.

Here’s additional info on what this is from Activision Blog:

It is Day 215. You’re nine kilometers outside of Verdansk, Russia. ‘Operation Gun Runner’ is in full swing, as you descend and disembark from a deployment helicopter as part of Warcom’s 23rd Battalion.

Perched on the side of the chopper, you’re listening to radio chatter, sitting next to another member of the Warcom forces; Operator ‘D-Day’, who’s holding an assault rifle (with a short stock). It looks like you’ve chosen an M4A1 (with Long Barrel and Hybrid Scope). As you drop onto the cracked concrete loading dock near this train yard, you fan out; ready to engage Allegiance forces.

What you’ve seen is one of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare tactical infils (or ‘infiltrations’); this one shows a disembarking into the Multiplayer map currently named ‘Gun Runner”. These infils usually occur between the time you’ve chosen your Multiplayer Loadout and the start of the MP match.

Here’s the video, which reveals Gun Runner as one of the new MP maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:

Tune in August 1 for the full reveal of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP Universe.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Gunfight 2v2 Mode Revealed — Details and Impressions

During a Twitch stream today, popular content creators revealed a first look at the brand new Gunfight mode coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP this October 25.

Back in late May, during our trip to Infinity Ward, we had a chance to see and also play the new Gunfight mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

In this post, we’re breaking down the exact details on how the Gunfight mode works in MP and some of our impressions of this mode after playing it.

Gunfight Mode Details

Here’s the rundown of how Gunfight works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:

  • Gunfight is only 2v2
  • Gunfight features specially designed maps for this mode only. Three maps have been shown today:
    • King: Interior of warehouse
    • Pine: Dense Forest
    • Stack: Desert Container Yard
  • There is no create a class in the Gunfight mode.
  • The load outs are set for each player, and the load outs that players play with change every 2 rounds.
  • There is 6 rounds total per match
  • When the match starts, the timer gives you 40 seconds to win the round
  • If after 40 seconds there is no winner, a flag appears on the map. Players have to run to the flag and defend it for 3 seconds to secure the win.
  • If no one can defend the flag within the new time limit, the round will end and the team with the most total health left wins
  • There is 100 health per player, combined for 200 health between the two players
  • You do not heal in this mode and auto-health regeneration is disabled for this mode. The health amount is set.
  • The top of the screen shows the combined health per team, allowing you to see how much damage you have done and how much health your team has left.

Impressions

As mentioned above, we had a chance to play and checkout this mode at Infinity Ward back in May. For those of you who loved Face-Off in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, this mode is for you. It’s the perfect mode for those grudge matches to take on friends in a 2v2 action.

This mode has set classes already, so all players are on the level playing field and have an equal opportunity at winning from just the arsenal available. There’s no opportunity to create your own class going in to Gunfight, which may be a negative aspect for some players, but having set classes really tests the skills of each player’s ability with all of the weapons. During our play session, there were random set ups given — going from pistols to rocket launchers to use.

Playing the mode at Infinity Ward, it’s clear that this mode is designed to be a fun, hectic gameplay that fans can play when taking a break from the traditional MP experience that the title offers. And it’s designed to have maps that are separately built for this mode only, which again adds more content to the overall game experience — similar to what Face-Off did for Modern Warfare 3. Face-Off allowed for 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3, but Gunfight is only 2v2 which works for the mode.

Infinity Ward did not answer a question on the total maps available in the game overall across MP, but there’s 3 Gunfight maps confirmed for now.

Gunfight is just a small portion of the entire MP Mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It’s a single mode, and the focus of today’s reveal. One of the things you will notice is that the realism aspect discussed for the campaign mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare does carry over to MP as well.

And by the way, all of the NBA and NFL events you’ve seen this year where athletes were playing Modern Warfare, you only saw 2 players on a team because they were playing Gunfight.

The full reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer will take place on August 1 at 10AM PT.

The studio announced the news today giving fans a date to look forward too for new info on the new Call of Duty title, set to launch on October 25.

Today, Infinity Ward also showcased the first gameplay of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP with the reveal of the Gunfight 2v2 mode coming to the game. Twitch streamers are currently showcasing first gameplay of the mode, and we had a chance to see and play Gunfight during our visit at Infinity Ward back in May. More details on what we saw is here.
