Here’s the content coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with Season 2

Activision and Infinity Ward have released a roadmap of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 2 Content.

As part of a blog post on Activision site, here’s more information the content coming on Day 1 and what’s coming throughout the Season:

CONTENT AVAILABLE DAY 1:

  • New MP Maps:
    • Rust – The classic map returns! A small map for fast-paced combat, Rust brings the battle to an oil yard in the middle of the desert. The site of the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign mission, “Endgame”, may be just that for players who don’t learn the tricks to master this arid field of play. Utilize the environment for cover and grab the high ground and low ground to take advantage of your enemies.
    • Atlas Superstore – Go shopping in Atlas Superstore, a new Multiplayer map that takes place in a supercenter warehouse that has been taken over by Al-Qatala forces. Battle in dense lanes of traffic, over fallen shelving, and throughout the shipping, receiving, and employee-only areas. Clean up on aisle six!
  • New Ground War Map:
    • Zhokov Boneyard – A resting place for discarded airplane parts, Zhokov Boneyard is a Ground War map in Verdansk. Traipse through this airplane junk yard and avoid the turbulence of the enemy team while capturing your objectives.
  • New Gunfight Maps:
    • Bazaar – A tightly contained cross-section of the streets of Urzikstan is turned into a battleground in Bazaar. Experience the tension-filled Gunfight while navigating a new zone of combat. The randomized Gunfight loadouts all have a chance to shine as the maps symmetrical layout offers opportunities for big moments and epic plays.
  • New MP Modes:
    • Gunfight Tournament – Enter this single elimination 2v2 firefight and battle to earn rewards. 32 teams will enter, but only one can be crowned Gunfight Tournament champion. Gunfight Tournaments will be live for a limited time.
  • CDL Playlist – Fight like the pros in this Call of Duty League ruleset playlist. In this playlist, the settings and available weapons, maps, and modes have been altered, so you can battle like the best of ‘em. Get a look at the complete Call of Duty League ruleset here, then jump into the playlist.
    • CDL Playlist
  • New Operator:
  • New Weapons:
    • Grau 5.56
    • Striker 45

CONTENT AVAILABLE DURING THE SEASON:

  • New MP Map:
    • Khandor Hideout
  • New Operators:
    • Talon
    • Mace
  • New MP Modes:
    • Infected Ground War – An outbreak has occurred in Ground War. Join up with your fellow Survivors to hold off the Infected horde until the time expires. Infected players will have limited loadouts but increased movement abilities, so be wary of their crafty play. If you do get infected, attack with the horde to assault and takedown any remaining Survivors in a large-scale match of Infected.
    • NVG Reinforce – Battle under the cover of darkness in the NVG Reinforce playlist. Reinforce is a hybrid objective mode that blends elements of Domination with Search & Destroy.
    • Gunfight Variants
    • Demolition – Similar to Search and Destroy, this respawn mode pits two teams against each other with the objective of attacking or destroying bomb sites. The attacking team must destroy both bomb sites within the time limit to win the round. Decimating one bomb site adds to your time. Destroy, defend, and be mindful of explosives in Demolition.
  • New Weapon:
    • Classified

Infinity Ward dev has ‘no details’ on Ranked Play for Modern Warfare

Fans who have been waiting for a potential Ranked Play in Modern Warfare may be disappointed.

Infinity Ward’s Art Director has said on Reddit that he has “no details” on any potential Ranked Play for Modern Warfare when asked by a fan.

Sorry. I dont have details on that.

Fans have been hoping for some sort of a Ranked Playlist in Modern Warfare since it’s launch, especially with the launch of the Call of Duty League.

For those waiting on it, there may not be one coming but it’s not too clear yet.

One thing I’ll say: last I heard a few months ago was that there was no Ranked Play in development for Modern Warfare. If that has changed, that’s up in the air for now. There could’ve have been some changes with the Call of Duty League, but we haven’t heard on that.

We’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

Modern Warfare Season 2 has ‘great pipeline of content,’ ‘surprises’ to come

During Activision Blizzard Q4 Investor Call, the company commented a bit on what’s coming to their overall franchises for 2020.

An investor asked Activision during the call how the changes to Modern Warfare’s revenue systems — the removal of the Season Pass and new Battle Pass system — has affected player engagement and revenue.

Activision President Rob Kostich answered this question describing the new features they brought to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and hinted at surprises to come this year.

Our intent was just to create a better overall experience for our player community, and we think we’ve done that,” says Kostich.

The first big thing we did was bring in cross play and cross progression enabling friends that play together no matter what platform they are on. In the case of Modern Warfare, it’s just great to see players come back together after so many years of experience in the franchise in the past.”

He commented then on the Season Pass being removed, which has led to no longer splitting the community anymore in Call of Duty. Kostich also says that player engagement is up year over year.

“Now with season pass, we wanted to do something similar. So instead of certain portions of the audience having certain content, we’re focused now on free content for the entire community to drive engagement with the overall community. We are focusing on the new battle pass and item shop system in the game to give players more transparency to the content they can obtain, focusing on more cosmetic content. The best way to judge all of it is just what the player behavior and what’s the community saying. Our engagement is up significantly year-over-year, and that’s really great for us to see so many people enjoying and playing this fantastic game.”

And then on the player investment side, I’d say fans certainly seem to be appreciating the new system quite a bit. We mentioned kind of the growth year-on-year, but one other thing I might add is that, we’re also see an increased attach rates in game to the new system, which I think is a very, very positive sign for us. And for us, this all signals to a really healthy ecosystem within Modern Warfare, one that we think w can build on and create momentum with our community.”

Kostich then has hinted that 2020 will be a big year for Call of Duty overall with an increase in player base to the franchise and great new content to come.

“It’s really on us from now to really build great content, which we intend to do for the long haul on this game. A great pipeline of content is coming starting with Season 2 next week. And we have some surprises in store beyond that. So I’d say overall, what we expect is a healthier Call of Duty in 2020 versus the previous year. And we look forward to sharing more in the future.”

Activision has not said what the “great pipeline of content” is for Season 2 in Modern Warfare yet. Season 2 begins on February 11 for the game.

In regards to the surprises, there’s no information as to what that means yet. It could be the long rumored Battle Royale mode, or something else.
