Watches in-game in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare showcase real-world time

In the latest teaser for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s upcoming MP reveal event, Infinity Ward released a video showcasing the new Tactical Infiltration, which is how players enter the map to start off each of the MP matches that are played.

The video showed a soldier landing on the ground from the helicopter and when he did land, it showed the FOV with a watch on his wrist.

That watch, according to Infinity Ward’s Art Director, showcases the real-world time based off of the console/PC’s set location, not a time in-game.

The watches read the time off of your console or pc. They are real time not game time.

The full reveal of the MP universe for Modern Warfare takes place August 1 at 10AM PT. Stay tuned to CharlieIntel for new gameplay and impressions next week.

New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Teaser Clip teases the Tactical Infiltration for MP matches

Activision has continued to tease the MP mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with a look at the new starting up animation for each MP match.

The video teased a helicopter style entrance for the match and then gets off to join into the countdown. This is not the only entrance style there is in Modern Warfare MP.

Here’s additional info on what this is from Activision Blog:

It is Day 215. You’re nine kilometers outside of Verdansk, Russia. ‘Operation Gun Runner’ is in full swing, as you descend and disembark from a deployment helicopter as part of Warcom’s 23rd Battalion.

Perched on the side of the chopper, you’re listening to radio chatter, sitting next to another member of the Warcom forces; Operator ‘D-Day’, who’s holding an assault rifle (with a short stock). It looks like you’ve chosen an M4A1 (with Long Barrel and Hybrid Scope). As you drop onto the cracked concrete loading dock near this train yard, you fan out; ready to engage Allegiance forces.

What you’ve seen is one of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare tactical infils (or ‘infiltrations’); this one shows a disembarking into the Multiplayer map currently named ‘Gun Runner”. These infils usually occur between the time you’ve chosen your Multiplayer Loadout and the start of the MP match.

Here’s the video, which reveals Gun Runner as one of the new MP maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:

Tune in August 1 for the full reveal of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare MP Universe.

Weapon audio gets a major upgrade with new engine in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The Activision Blog’s series of articles describing the new engine upgrades for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continues today with a look at the new features brought to the game with the brand new engine. As mentioned back in May, the new engine been in the works for over 5 years and this year’s game is the first to fully use it.

Every weapon has almost a 3D like sound with the weapon interacting with the environment in the game.

“You’re hearing the weapon fire, but you’re also hearing the shell eject from the weapon.” For Modern Warfare, the sound of each individual shell, traveling in 3D space, as it moves through the air, is also audible, “before it actually impacts on the ground, using a physics system for all of this.” The weapons also have a weighty feel to them. Nestle a weapon stock to your chest, and there’s a familiar kick back: “We made sure you felt something akin to a nice thump to the chest.”

Infinity Ward’s Audio Team actually went to a desert with 90 microphones to capture the audio of each weapon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare interact with the surroundings while playing the game. So based upon where you are on the map, there might be different sounds as the noise travels through the terrain of the environment.

“We recorded all of our weapons, out in the desert and all kinds of other locations. We used about 90 different microphones to capture each shot.” Groups of microphones provided different audio functionality, too: “That’s for all kinds of perspectives. Twenty of those are for the player perspective alone. Using all of that detail, we were able to capture different perspectives; those from when you’re at the hip, and those when you’re aiming down sight.”

Weapon sounds also interact with the environment. “This is super important to us, Stephen says; “we couldn’t make the game without the sounds being relevant to the place, whether that’s Piccadilly Circus, the desert, the mountains or wherever.” The team employed a number of new systems to add environmental effects to weapon audio: “The first is reverb and slap delay DSP [digital signal processing] system. The second is an atmospheric layer that is contextual and plays along with every weapon shot. The third is a weapon reflection system.” With the audio existing in 3D space, expect variations in sound depending on how and where you’re listening to each weapon fire.

They have also made improvements to how the audio travels back when it hits the environment with big improvements to ensure that weapons in this game sound like it’s a real weapon being used outside of the game.

Every time you shoot a gun, the sound travels out into the world, and the game knows where the sound will interact with the environments and plays a specific sound at those locations.” All of this is contextual. Whether you’re up next to a building, down in front of a car, or inside a subway tunnel, the reflected sound of each weapon has an appropriate audio effect.

“Having sound behave realistically is super-important to us, so as those sounds go out into the environment and bounce back to us, they do so with authenticity and clarity, at the speed of sound, and as close to how you’d hear it occur in reality. There is natural delay and decay to every weapon noise. The sound gives you a big, deep, booming echo in larger expanses of scenery, while the same weapon becomes slightly more muffled, far less reverberating, and with less echo in more confined environments.”

“We didn’t want to stop there, so we decided to do the same for all our explosions. These are just some of the pieces of the puzzle that we’ve all been trying to put together reimagining what Modern Warfare is to us, grounding you into our whole new world. And giving you a whole lot of fun.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on October 25. The studio will reveal a lot of new details on the Multiplayer Mode during an event on August 1. Stay tuned.

Gunsmith announced for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Activision and Infinity Ward have teased a first look and details on the Gunsmith In Modern Warfare.

Details from Activision Blog:

The weapons bench is shrouded in darkness. Scattered ammunition is strewn about the surface of the bench. As we inspect the weapons, we discover a pistol lying next to some explosives. Nearby is a pack of grenades.

But we’re here to tool up with an assault rifle. Getting the right selection of attachments is vitally-important to your Multiplayer game. Thankfully, there’s an impressive array of options, as we cycle through some of the many customization options, at various times locking in a Muzzle Break, Balanced Suppressor, Scout Combat Optic, Lightweight Stock, CQB grip, Corp Combat and Holo Sight.

Gunsmithing is a robust weapon customization option for your two main Loadout weapons: Each Primary and Secondary Weapon can be augmented to give you the precise type and style of firepower you require for any type of multiplayer game mode. You can customize up to five parts of each weapon, until your available slots are filled. With Assault rifles, for example, you usually have nine areas of the weapon to augment: The Muzzle, Lasers, Optic, Stock, Rear Grip, Magazine, Underbarrel, Barrel, or a Perk. Choose wisely.

Now you’re ready for battle.

Check back Aug 1 for the full reveal.

Infinity Ward dev says not all maps in Modern Warfare will be 3 lane style

Infinity Ward developer has responded on Twitter to a fan asking about the map design style in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer.

One complaint some fans have is that in recent years the maps have all been the same exact style with the constant 3 lane format, but that format has been adopted and enjoyed by competitive players as it’s a standard design.

The tweet from the developer states that all maps in Modern Warfare won’t be the same standard 3 lane style.

The full reveal for Modern Warfare MP takes place August 1.

Infinity Ward has ‘something in the works’ to release additional gameplay footage of Modern Warfare 2v2 mode

A lot of the replies to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s 2v2 Gunfight gameplay last week was that some users wanted to experience the gameplay and footage without the streamers and commentary that was included as part of the reveal of the gameplay.

Users on Reddit have mentioned a few times since the Thursday stream and asked Infinity Ward about doing so. The streams were capped at 900p 60FPS and some viewers wanted to see the gameplay without the personalities talking over it and the face cam blocking the screen.

Infinity Ward’s Senior Communications Director replied on Reddit stating that they have something in the works but no ETA for its release as of now.

Can’t give an ETA at the moment, but we’ve got something in the works.

The reveal of the MP universe of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set for August 1 at 10AM PT. It’s not clear if this gameplay will be showcased during the MP stream or released at a different time.
