Modern Warfare dev admits they need to find ‘better ways’ of communicating info, says they’re ‘working on it’

Infinity Ward’s Art Director Joel Emslie has been active on Reddit this past week, more active than any other developer at Infinity Ward. Emslie states on Reddit that he’s been browsing the posts because of extra time during his vacation. The studio fully comes back on January 6.

In a post reply, Emslie states the studio’s Communications Manager is doing a “good job” under the “really really tough constraints” of the job.

In my opinion our community manager is doing a phenomenal job working to the best of her ability within some really really tough constraints. She does a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes that is never seen by the community. I have the luxury of popping in here from time to time to spit ball stuff with you guys and Im happy to do that.

He followed up on January 3 with additional replies after a fan asked him why he’s replying more than the Comms Manager is on Reddit.

He states that he’s been discussing topics he can talk about in this Reddit that are in his expertise area. He also says that “none of us would argue” that they can “find better ways to get the community information about the game.” Emslie confirms they’re “working on it.”

Almost all of the responses I’ve been discussing in this sub are in my area of expertise so I can be very open. As long as we are on the topic. I would like to ask everyone in the community to give my co-workers a lot more respect in the area of comms. Everyone is working as hard as they can and doing a phenomenal job. I do think and none of us would argue, that we need to find better ways to get the community information about the game. We are working on it and with anything this big theres always room for improvement.

Infinity Ward’s Sr. Communications Manager Ashton Williams stated back in December that a roadmap and other things are “coming” but did not provide an ETA.

Modern Warfare devs plans to add emblem and calling card for earning Nukes

Infinity Ward’s Art Director has confirmed on Reddit that the studio does plan to add a reward for those who have earned the Tactical Nuke in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Players earn the Nuke in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by going on a 30 killstreak with weapon kills only – kill streaks and other things don’t count towards the Nuke.

Now, Infinity Ward’s Art Director has stated that they are actively working to get a bonus in-game reward, a calling card and an emblem, for those who have earned the Nuke in-game to show off that status.

This is something that we are working on and want to get in. No eta as of yet.

As noted in his reply, there is no ETA for when this will be added into the game.

Fans have been asking for a way show that they have earned a Nuke directly in-game, and now they will have that opportunity to do so when this gets added.

Each Season for Modern Warfare to bring additional map to PS4-exclusive Survival mode, exclusive Challenge

According to a new landing page on the official Call of Duty website titled “Sony PlayStation Advantage,” PlayStation 4 exclusive Survival mode will get a new map added to its rotation with every new Season in Modern Warfare.

The new landing site says PlayStation 4 version of Modern Warfare is the “best play to play.”

The site reveals that each Season will bring an additional map to Survival mode, and exclusive Challenge Missions in-game with unique rewards for PS4 players.

PlayStation 4 players can jump into Special Ops: Survival, an exclusive* wave-based horde mode. And each Modern Warfare season will bring a new location to Survival, as well as a special Challenge Mission and reward for other game modes.

Acquire unique rewards by completing gameplay objectives across modes. Each season, a new weapon or skin is up for grabs

Also something interesting to note on the site is that when looking at the Survival maps selection option, there’s 4 currently available and 5 maps listed as “REDACTED” which might hint that there will be at least five more Seasons to come for Modern Warfare this year.

The fine text once again re-iterates that this exclusive content is timed exclusive until October 1, 2020, at which point it will be made available on Xbox One and PC.

Modern Warfare devs plans to allow different blue print attachments to be combined

Infinity Ward has stated they have plans to allow players to expand how they can use blue print attachments in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The studio wants to allow players to Frankenstein weapons together by combining blue print attachments with other weapons and apply different camos to create any weapon styles players want.

At some point in the future we are hoping to let you combine different blue print attachments together to Frankenstein weapons and then apply different camos.

The issue the studio is having right now is that the feature is currently buggy in development testing, so they are trying to work through all of the bugs before adding the feature into the game. Because of that, there is no ETA for when to expect this feature in Modern Warfare.

Its really buggy though so I don’t have an answer as to when we would be able to push out an update for it but we are trying to work the problem.

Many players have been wanting to take the blue print attachments to other weapon combinations and put together different blue prints together in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This would allow that to happen.

Call of Duty titles generated over $1.1 billion in revenue in 2019

SuperData Research has released their 2019 report on the video games industry and the overall results from the digital market worldwide.

Their extensive research report is available to download for free and provides insight into the free to play category, premium games, and streaming services for 2019.

The report has revealed that Call of Duty titles collectively generated over $1.1 billion in revenue in 2019.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare generated over $647 million in revenue through the end of the year. The title released in October and, per Activision, is the most played Call of Duty game of this console generation.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s post launch microtransactions also performed well through the end of the year with the game generated $487 million in revenue in 2019. Combining those two, Call of Duty generated $1.13 billion in revenue in 2019.

Call of Duty: Mobile also released in 2019, and per Super Data, the title generated $116 million total in revenue.

Bringing AAA game franchises to mobile proved to be a successful strategy for publishers. Call of Duty Mobile earned $116.8M in 2019 a\er its October release, and Mario Kart: World Tour also launched on mobile. Instead of simply applying a franchise brand to a mobile game, these games truly mirror the feel of their console counterparts. Their success also shows that gamers are willing to play a wide range of genres on a touchscreen.

The industry continued to shift towards free to play in 2019 with free to play games generating a 6% increase in revenue in 2019 versus 2018. More companies are slowly starting to adopt the free to play model, bringing more players into their game universe.

2020 is a big year for gaming as the new generation of consoles arrive. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be launching in Holiday 2020.

Infinity Ward confirms plans to add more custom loadout slots in Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward has confirmed they have plans to add more create a class slots to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in the near future.

Fans have been asking for more class slots since the game launched. The game launched with only five, and without a prestige system, no way of unlocking or getting more. The studio acknowledged the feedback after launch and have been working to get this in the game.

The studio’s Art Director noted on Reddit that they’ve put this on the main line to get it out as soon as they can, but they have a lot of testing for it to ensure it’s properly added.

You and everyone else that has commented on this are right. Its in mainline back at the studio and weve been tinkering with it. Im not sure which update its in but I think its next. Believe it or not it can cause horrible bugs if not tested properly. Im not certain about all this so don’t get fired up on me if Im wrong. Since I’ve commented here Ill stick with the issue at the studio.

A fan commented asking why this wasn’t a priority before launch, and he replied saying that launch priorities constantly change over 3 years to get the game out the door.

You’re right. The real answer is there are 10s of thousands of tasks that lead up to the launch of the game. We have to triage all of those tasks and decide what tasks take priority over others and who in the teams can we assign the task to. For example I do not have the skill set to fix this particular problem. 3 years goes by in an eye blink for us.

There’s no ETA for when it’ll be live, so stay tuned.
